Eminem 2013 v3
Here’s Eminem cover #3 requested.
In the 90’s I was working as a corporate in-house graphic designer. I hated the job but the money was good. One of the things that got me through was that no one in the office knew what the creative department really did and that existed of me and another designer. So I put in a request for a multi-CD burner which showed up on my desk within a week. It was going to be used for “backing up my files”, but in reality, I was creating a CD burning side gig. My friend Tony in the mailroom was into music and would scour the pawnshops for CDs, bring them in, burn them for ourselves, and then resell them. We burned a lot of CDs back then. Back then, you could only burn at 2X speed so that thing was running all day long. He was also into a lot of different kinds of music and really opened my tastes up. So, the whole reason for this story so far is one day he brings in the Slim Shady LP to copy. At this point, I had never heard of him and his rapping was so different than anything else out there at the time. And he was a skinny white kid from Detroit on top of it all. Definitely not filling any of the rap stereotypes. I know Brett and I was like, WTF is this? I remember I didn’t like it at the time but Tony said, trust me, this guy is going to be huge. And well, Tony was right.
I’ve since grown to appreciate Eminem’s incredible rap talent, his place in the music industry and was thrilled to be asked to take on this cover (again)!
This cover is reimagined in acrylic, pencil, ink and finished in resin.
