The Who - Keith Moon
Moon the Loon!
That’s Keith Moon, the eccentric drummer for The Who who made a reputation for blowing up toilets, throwing TVs out of hotel windows, and destroying drum kits. This is the guy who started all that “rock n roll behaviour”. It got so bad that it’s estimated that it cost the band about $500k paying for hotel rooms to be fixed. He was a raging drunk and the life of the party. In the end, he was passing out on his drum kit during shows. One time a fan in the audience actually got invited up to finish the set. Fun Canadian Fact: The last show Keith ever played live was in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1976. He died by overdose in 1978 practically broke. He’s also in the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and in 2011 was voted second best drummer in history by a Rolling Stone reader poll. The Who were never the same after he died.
